HIGH WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT SOUTHERN CENTRAL CALIFORNIA

 HIGH WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM PDT /11 PM MST/ THIS EVENING.


A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT CROSSWINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BE STRONG ENOUGH TO MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE  VEHICLES.
BOATERS: USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN VENTURING ONTO AREA LAKES. 


HIGH WIND ADVISORY

 WINDS: SOUTHWEST 20 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS 40 TO 45 MPH.

 TIMING: WIDESPREAD STRONG WINDS WILL PEAK DURING THE MID AFTERNOON THEN GRADUALLY DECREASE THIS EVENING.


 LOCATIONS: INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO COLORADO CITY, KINGMAN, BULLHEAD CITY, LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA, BARSTOW, BAKER, MOUNTAIN PASS, CALIENTE, PIOCHE, MESQUITE, PAHRUMP, SEARCHLIGHT, BOULDER CITY AND LAS VEGAS. 
 IMPACTS: THE STRONG WINDS MAY CAUSE DIFFICULT DRIVING CONDITIONS FOR MOTORCYCLES, LARGE TRUCKS, TRAILERS AND CAMPERS.
  LOCALIZED BLOWING DUST AND SAND MAY BRIEFLY REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO UNDER A MILE ESPECIALLY NEAR DRY LAKE BEDS. 



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS INSTRUCTION: 
 BOATERS: USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN VENTURING ONTO AREA LAKES. THESE WINDS WILL MAKE OPEN WATERS OF LAKES ROUGH AND HAZARDOUS AND MAY RESULT IN HIGH WAVES WHICH MAY TIP OR SWAMP SMALLER CRAFT.  FOR YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY AVOID THE OPEN WATERS. STAY CLOSE TO SHORE OR AROUND PROTECTED AREAS. 
 VEHICLE DRIVERS: A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT CROSSWINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BE STRONG ENOUGH TO MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE  VEHICLES.

  •  STRONG WINDS OVER DESERT AREAS COULD RESULT IN BRIEFLY LOWERED VISIBILITIES TO WELL UNDER A MILE AT TIMES IN BLOWING DUST OR BLOWING SAND.
  •  USE EXTRA CAUTION.

AFFECTED AREA:  NORTHWEST PLATEAU - NORTHWEST DESERTS - LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA - WESTERN MOJAVE DESERT - EASTERN MOJAVE DESERT - LINCOLN COUNTY -NORTHEAST CLARK COUNTY - WESTERN CLARK AND SOUTHERN NYE COUNTY - SHEEP RANGE - LAS VEGAS VALLEY- SOUTHERN CLARK COUNTY INCLUDING COLORADO CITY, PIPE SPRING NATIONAL MONUMENT, TUWEEP, MT TRUMBULL, KINGMAN, GOLDEN VALLEY, DOLAN SPRINGS, VALENTINE, WIKIEUP, YUCCA, BULLHEAD CITY, MOHAVE VALLEY, BARSTOW, DAGGETT, FORT IRWIN, AREA 51, BAKER, MOUNTAIN PASS, MITCHELL CAVERNS,. AFFECTED CALIFORNIA COUNTIES OR PARTS OF: INYO, SAN BERNARDINO, SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY CENTRAL COAST- SANTA BARBARA COUNTY CENTRAL COAST INCLUDING THE CITIES OF SAN LUIS OBISPO, PISMO BEACH, MORRO BAY, CAMBRIA, SAN SIMEON, SANTA MARIA, LOMPOC, VANDENBERG
 WINDS: NORTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 25 MPH WILL INCREASE T0 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE INTO LATE THIS EVENING. GUSTY WINDS WILL MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.
MAJOR ROADWAYS IMPACTED: STATE HIGHWAYS 1 - 101 - 246.
