Hawaii - Kamoamoa Incident VolcanoWildland Fire - 110 acres, 20% contained.
Location: 7 miles east of Hawaii Volcanoes NP Headquarters. Fire is burning in very remote area.Problems/Concerns: Volcanic fumes and large earth cracks prohibit suppression action on many parts of the fire. There are numerous snags from the fires of 2002-2003. Numerous tour helicopters are operating in area. Lava is "ponding" near the vent or source. As this pond continues to grow the potential for downhill flows towards unburned vegetation and park infrastructure increase. Direction of potential breach of this pond is unknown and difficult to predict.
