CA-RRU- Winchester - Vegetation Fire 225 acres 100%

Date Reported: 08/06/2009 Time Reported: 3:30 PM
Incident Type: Wildland Fire
UPDATE 8:00 p.m.: Evacuation orders have been lifted and residents are now permitted to return to their homes. Firefighters will continue to work through the night to contain the fire. Firefighting efforts by ground and air resources saved over 50 homes that were threatened. Full containment is estimated at 10:00 p.m. this evening and full control by 4:00 p.m. on August 7th. No injuries reported. No further updates will be posted this evening unless significant activity or events occur.
UPDATE 7:00 p.m.: Fire is approximately 225 acres and 50% contained. Evacuation orders are still in effect until further notice. All aircraft has been released.
UPDATE 5:45 p.m.: The fire is 125 acres and 35% contained.
UPDATE 4:40 - Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for residents between Stowe Road including all streets in between northwest to Joppe Avenue. An evacuation center has been opened at Valley Wide Recreation - Winchester Park located at 32665 Haddock Avenue X Winchester Road (TB 839-F6). The evacuation areas affected of approximately 50 residents are Hy 74 to the north, Cortrite to the west, Hy 79 to the east and Stowe Road to the south.
UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: Fire is now approximately 40-50 acres. No injuries reported.
UPDATE 4:00 p.m.: Fire is now approximately 25 acres with no containment.

Supplemental Comments: CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters are on scene of a wildland fire in the Winchester area. First arriving units reported approximately 20 acres burning in light, flashy fuels with a potential of several hundred acres.
