Arsonist Raymond Lee Oyler gets death Penalty

Judge Charles Morgan orders that Oyler shall suffer the death penalty within the walls of California state prison at San Quentin.
"It is so ordered."
Raymond Lee Oyler was given the death penalty for setting the 2006 Esperanza wildfire that killed five U.S. Forest Service firefighters in Riverside.

The Engine 57 crew was burned over while preforming structure protection during the 2006 Esperanza wildland fire.

Sentencing statements directed towards Oyler by Family members:

"I am so grateful that he will not kill or destroy any more lives"- Jason Mckay's mother

"Nothing you can do will set this right. But I hope you send him to die" - brother of esperanza victim.

"I've tried to forgive Oyler but I can't" - mother of Esperanza victim.

Oyler, 38, was convicted of five counts of first-degree murder, 20 counts of arson and 17 counts of using an incendiary device.

The members of the U.S. Forest Service firefighting crew based in Idyllwild killed in the Line of Duty: Daniel Hoover-Najera, 20; Pablo Cerda, 23; Mark Loutzenhiser, 43; Jason McKay, 27; and Jess McLean, 27.
