September 10, 2008

Wildland fire activity remains light nationally. One new large fire was reported in Idaho. One large fire was contained in California.

Crews and Incident Management Teams are stationed in Atlanta, Georgia and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to support Hurricane Gustav recovery operations.

Weather Discussion: Cooler weather along with gusty winds is predicted for the Great Basin, Montana, and Wyoming. Showers and thunderstorms will develop across the same areas.

Elmore (Shasta-Trinity National Forest): The fire was contained at 343 acres.

Gulch (Shasta-Trinity National Forest): 2,847 acres at 60 percent contained. This fire is three miles west of Platina. Residences are threatened and evacuations and road closures are in effect.

Deerhorn (Hoopa Valley Tribe, Bureau of Indian Affairs): 363 acres at 70 percent contained. This fire is one mile southeast of Weitchpec.
Panther (Klamath National Forest): 48,770 acres at 75 percent contained. This complex of two fires is 14 miles southwest of Happy Camp. Active fire behavior was reported.

Siskiyou/ Blue 2 Complex (Klamath National Forest): 80,562 acres at 95 percent contained. This complex consists of both the Siskiyou and Blue 2 complexes. The complex is 18 miles southwest of Happy Camp. Minimal fire activity was reported.

Bear Wallow Complex (Klamath National Forest): 47,317 acres at 75 percent contained. This complex is 14 miles west of Etna. Wind driven fire runs were reported.

NEW Little Park (Twin Falls District, Bureau of Land Management): 1,600 acres at 80 percent contained. This fire is burning 14 miles east of Carey.
South Barker (Sawtooth National Forest): 34,250 acres. This fire is two miles east of Featherville. This wildland fire use is being managed to accomplish natural resource objectives.

East Slide Rock Ridge (Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest): 54,549 acres at 50 percent contained. This fire is 15 miles southeast of Jarbidge.

Rattle (Umpqua National Forest): 2,700 acres at seven percent contained. This fire is 30 miles east of Glide. Structures and power lines are threatened. Highway 138 is closed.
