September 8, 2008

Initial attack activity was light over the weekend. Three new large fires were reported in California yesterday.

Crews and Incident Management Teams were sent to Marietta, Georgia, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to support Hurricane Gustav recovery operations.

Weather Discussion: Warm and dry weather will continue across the West. Thunderstorms will increase in the Southwest and possibly move into the southern Great Basin.

NEW Elmore (Shasta-Trinity National Forest): 450 acres at five percent contained. This fire is five miles southeast of Lakehead. Residences and railways are threatened. Evacuations are in effect and a major north/south railway is closed.
NEW Gluch (Shasta-Trinity National Forest): 2,000 acres at five percent contained. This fire is three miles west of Platina. Residences are threatened and evacuations and road closures are in effect.
NEW Deerhorn (Hoopa Valley Tribe, Bureau of Indian Affairs): 275 acres at 55 percent contained. This fire is one mile southeast of Weitchpec. Structures are threatened.
Panther (Klamath National Forest): 48,532 acres at 75 percent contained. This complex of two fires is 14 miles southwest of Happy Camp.

Siskiyou/ Blue 2 Complex (Klamath National Forest): 80,067 acres at 95 percent contained. This complex consists of both the Siskiyou and Blue 2 complexes. The complex is 18 miles southwest of Happy Camp. Fire activity was moderate.

East Slide Rock Ridge (Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest): 54,549 acres at 50 percent contained. This fire is 15 miles southeast of Jarbidge. Minimal fire activity was reported.

Rattle (Umpqua National Forest): 1,982 acres at five percent contained. This fire is 30 miles east of Glide. Structures and power lines are threatened.
Lonesome Complex (Rogue River National Forest): 1,030 acres at 67 percent contained. This complex of three fires is 20 miles northeast of Prospect. Fire activity was minimal.
