News: America’s Firefighting Heroes - Wildland firefighter

Tahoe National Forest - Forest Safety Officer Michelle Reugebrink of the Tahoe National Forest has been named one of America’s Firefighting Heroes by Baskin-Robbins and the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation.

Serving her 24th year at the Tahoe National Forest, Reugebrink is a first responder and recently created a wildland blaze safety video for fire stations nationwide. She was the only wildland firefighter among the 31 recognized.

VALLEJO, Calif., Apr. 21, 2008--The Forest Service's Pacific Southwest Region is proud to announce that Michelle Reugebrink, Forest Safety Officer for the Tahoe National Forest, has been named one of America's 31 Firefighting Heroes by Baskin-Robbins and the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation. This honor recognizes Reugebrink for having demonstrated outstanding acts of valor and service.

As a Forest Safety Officer and wildland firefighter, Reugebrink was selected for her outstanding commitment to the ideals of community service and protection of life and property. A panel of representatives from Baskin-Robbins and the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation, along with national fire service representatives selected 31 individuals who met the nation-wide nomination criteria. Michelle is the only wildland firefighter among the 31 firefighters to be recognized.

"We are extremely proud of Michelle and her extraordinary dedication to the health, welfare, and safety of our firefighters here in California, and throughout the nation," said Pacific Southwest Regional Forester Randy Moore.

Reugrbrink was selected based upon her nomination by the U.S. Forest Service's national Fire and Aviation Management office and has been recognized on the Baskin-Robbins Web site at www.baskinrobbins.com.

Have an Ice Cream with a hero: As one of the 31 honorees, Reugebrink will support wildland and local firefighters by rolling up her sleeves to scoop ice cream during Baskin-Robbin's 31 Cent Scoop Night on Wednesday, April 30, 2008.

Activities centered on Reugebrink's recognition will take place between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. at the Roseville, Calif. Baskin-Robbins located at 8690 Sierra College Blvd, Roseville, California.

Michelle Reugebrink also received the Chief's 2007 Award for Excellence in Safety and Occupational Health. Michelle has provided strong leadership for the Tahoe National Forest, Region 5 and National Safety and Occupational Health Programs because of her personal passion for safety and concern for employees.
