San Luis Obispo - Hay Truck Fire

Hay ignites on truck traveling to Harmony

Flaming hay bales were extinguished on Highway 46 3.8 miles east of Highway 1 Thursday morning after the semi-truck driver noticed smoke billowing from his double-trailer load.

The driver of the truck belonging to White Ranch Co. of Shandon said he had no idea how the fire started. He declined to give his name, but did say he had left from Paso Robles and was going to Harmony,

Traffic was briefly delayed and about nine bales of hay lost.

The incident was reported at 11:19. Fire trucks from the Cambria Fire Department and Cal Fire, CHP and Caltrans units responded. The highway was expected to be fully open by noon.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
