RVCFD - Volunteer firefighter arrested - embezzlement

Riverside County Fire officials arrest volunteer firefighter on counts of embezzlement

H. Edmiston, a former Riverside County Volunteer Firefighter, has been arrested on felony counts of grand theft and embezzlement of Quail Valley Volunteer Fire Company fundsEdmiston, 27, of Sun City, was assigned to the Quail Valley Station in the unincorporated area of the county from April 2004 through his resignation Sept. 15.

In early September, the Riverside County Volunteer Firefighters Association reviewed the Quail Valley's financial documents and found inconsistencies and misappropriation of volunteer funds. A CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department law enforcement officers' thorough investigation ended in arresting Edmiston.

"We have zero tolerance for these types of offenses, and we will hold all of our personnel accountable for their actions," said John Hawkins, Riverside County fire chief. "We take violations of the public's trust very seriously. Our career and volunteer firefighters are dedicated, hard working individuals and it is disappointing to have one person's actions bring discredit to the department."

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
