Two San Francisco firefighters hurt in crash

Two San Francisco firefighters were treated and released from San Francisco General Hospital Saturday morning after their vehicle was broadsided in an intersection as they responded to a report of a fire, a San Francisco Fire Department dispatcher said.

The fire was reported at 7:19 a.m. at the Salt House tavern at 545 Mission St., and five minutes later, the accident occurred at the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and Bush Street, according to San Francisco fire Lt. Al Posey.

The tavern had reported some linens smoldering in its kitchen. The fire was extinguished, the dispatcher said.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
