Lake Tahoe Basin annual closure of forest roads

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has begun the annual closure of forest roads around the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Fall closure dates are established by the Motor Vehicle Use Map, which also establishes target opening dates after the winter season. The dates are dependent on soil conditions in order to avoid resource damage and erosion potential. To consult the MVUM for specific roads and dates, visit www.tinyurl.com/basintravel.

Once the gates are closed, forest users are reminded to park safely off the roadway, park only in designated spots and avoid parking in front of gates. For more information on gate closures, contact the forest supervisor's office at 530-543-2694 or visit http://tinyurl.com/recareastatus.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
