ORANGE COUNTY, SAN BERNARDINO, RIVERSIDE COUNTY, THE INLAND EMPIRE

 RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM TO 6 PM PST SUNDAY FOR STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY.

Update1530hrs: [EDIS] red flag warning from 8 am to 6 pm sunday for orange county coastal areas... the santa ana mountains... the inland empire... and the san bernardino county mountains.

Discussion:  SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE GREAT BASIN AND UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE OVER THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES WILL BRING MODERATE TO STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS AND MUCH LOWER HUMIDITIES SUNDAY WITH STRONGEST WINDS THROUGH AND BELOW PASSES AND CANYONS. NORTHEAST WINDS WILL DECREASE SOMEWHAT AND CONTINUE FOR SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY MORNING.

CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM TO 6 PM PST SUNDAY FOR STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY

  WINDS: NORTHEAST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 60 MPH.
 RELATIVE HUMIDITY: LOWEST DAYTIME AROUND 10 PERCENT WITH POOR OVERNIGHT RECOVERY.
 OUTLOOK: FOR SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY. POOR OVERNIGHT RECOVERY OF HUMIDITIES WITH LOWEST DAYTIME HUMIDITIES MONDAY AROUND 10 PERCENT. NORTHEAST WINDS WILL BE WEAKER 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH.

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW OR WILL SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS... LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL CREATE EXPLOSIVE FIRE GROWTH POTENTIAL.

How fires get their names

Every year in California thousands of wildfires start throughout the state. In most cases, the dispatch center sending the initial resources to a wildland fire will designate a name for the fire, but the first on scene engine or fire official can also name the incident. Fires are usually named for the area in which they start – a geographical location, local landmark, street, lake, mountain, peak, etc. Quickly naming the fire provides responding fire resources with an additional locater, and allows fire officials to track and prioritize incidents by name. For example during the Southern California Fire Siege of 2003, the largest wildland fire in California history, the Cedar Fire in San Diego County, was named after the Cedar Creek Falls area where it started. The destructive Old Fire, which burned during the same time period in San Bernardino County, was named after the road along which it started - Old Waterman Canyon Road.

We have over 4,000 members within CAL FIRE and CAL FIRE is associated with the California Professional Firefighters (CPF) and the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF).
