BLM Fire restrictions eased in Nor Cal

Fire restrictions lifted: Butte, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity counties.

Restrictions on private land burning will remain in effect until lifted by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Oct. 8, 2008 - The Bureau of Land Management has announced that restrictions on outdoor use of fire have been lifted for BLM-managed public lands in Butte, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity counties.

Easing of restrictions means that campfires can again be used outside of developed campgrounds. Campfire permits are required. Restrictions on use of internal combustion engines, including chainsaws, also will be lifted, and the BLM Redding Field Office will resume selling firewood cutting permits.

Target shooting is now allowed from a half hour before sunrise to sunset.

Those interested in cutting firewood on BLM-managed lands managed by the Redding Field Office should contact BLM Forester Walter Herzog at 224-2151.

Herzog said that cool fall weather has reduced fire dangers, but conditions are still dry and people still must use extreme caution with fire. He cautioned against using fires on windy days, and reminded campers to completely extinguish campfires before breaking camp.

Herzog said the restrictions on private land burning will remain in effect until lifted by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Seasonal fire restrictions have also been lifted on other north state public lands, including BLM-managed areas in northeast California. Some neighboring national forests have also eased seasonal fire restrictions. Herzog recommended that hunters, campers and other wildland users check on current fire restrictions in areas they plan to visit.
